4.Race Spirit and Dynamics

We believe that each runner can challenge themselves beyond their planned limits. The official distance of this race is 150 Miles. However, you can plan to run less than 150 miles. We also believe that you can change the planned race mileage for more or less miles, according to what happens at that moment. Because of this, we have decided to let you plan to make your decision - continue or stop your race at some certain mileages. We call these mileages points Decision Points or PDs. At any Decision Point you can re-evaluate your performance and act upon it, to keep, to shorten or to extend your initial planned mileage. If you choose to do so, you will be rewarded according to your decision. We recognize equally each and every effort made to reach a certain mileage. Our motto is: One Challenge, Many Victories!

Race Spirit & Dynamics

You cannot however use your chest number only on your back. - All Bibs have to be visible at all times during the race. - Not wearing your bib during the race is subject to a penalty. - Until 2025 we did not enforce this rule strictly leaving some runners without a quick means to be identified by our crew members. - In 2026 we will strickly enforce it. - We thank you for your cooperation for your safety and all others around. 6.2 Mandatory equipment during the race - A working and charged cell phone; (check with your provider for international coverage in Brazil). - A bunker (external battery) with at least 4 charges. - A reflective vest with flashing lights (must be worn between 7 pm and 6 am). 6.3 Walking Sticks It is allowed to use walking sticks for safety purposes 6.4 Alcoholic Beverages; It is not allowed to have with you at any time during the race any alcoholic beverages during the race. Both photos have to contain the bib and name of the runner. - The time out of the race course will not be discounted of the total time for the race. - It is very important that the runner follows the procedures as he/she can be considered “cheating” and therefore have a DQ in his or her status, by not providing information of his/her exit from the course to the organization. 6.7 Pico do Gaviao Selfie: - All runners should take a photo (selfie) at the Pico do Gaviao Summit Photo Booth and send it to the race organization at (whatsapp or sms) +19048662086 with a text “PC Summit” - to validate their ascent to the summit. - The photo has to clearly show the runner's face and his/her bib. - Runners have until the end of the race to send the picture to the phone listed above. 6.8 Common Sense Rules: - The race happens in a pilgrimage path called Caminho da Fe (similarly to the Camino de Santiago in Spain). - We expect from all our runners and support team members and vehicle utmost care towards the path, all villages, cities and their residents. - It is prohibited to discard trash in any part of the Caminho da Fe or anywhere else outside the PDs. Pilgrims: Remember: these roads are a pilgrimage route and also connect different municipalities in the interior of Minas Gerais state. You can encounter groups of pilgrims at around any curve, so be aware of them. Drive safe and slow ALWAYS. 2. Local Residents: These roads are active roads, with locals driving in their daily lives. Drive slowly and always be aware of locals. 3. Speeding: We recommend that all vehicles should be conducted at speeds below the minimum for these dirt roads. 4. Lights: We recommend that you have your vehicle's lights on at all times during the race. 5. Following your runner: Even though you can follow behind your runner at a safe distance, for your runner's and all others safety reasons, we strongly recommend that you use the leap frog system to support him or her. 6. Drivers: all drivers are required to carry their valid Driver's Licence at all times. Remember, at all times and in all situations, safety is the most important issue. This means safety for runners, staff, volunteers and the general public. The roads are not closed for this event and are, in fact, quite busy with pilgrims on the "Caminho da Fé" and local traffic. 7. Runners are responsible for their own actions and the actions of their team; teams are responsible for their own actions and the actions of their runners. 8. Always look and pay attention to both sides before crossing roads. Remember, drivers do not expect to encounter a jogger or parked vehicle on their route. 9. Remember that the event is held on public roads. Runners should not cross roads more than necessary; the team must cross roads carefully to bring assistance to the runner rather than the runner crossing for the team/vehicle. Time penalties or disqualification will be applied with a zero tolerance policy towards dangerous crossings or road behavior.

8. Support Team

8.1 General Rules We strongly suggest that each runner hires one vehicle per team. However it is allowed: - Up to 2 vehicles per runner - To share a support vehicle with up to 2 other runners. - About sharing support vehicle: Based on 20 years experience, we have seen terrible endings when runners decide to share support vehicles and drivers and support team members in general. All successful cases of runners sharing vehicles have one thing in common: Both runners and drivers and support team members have a strong, close and long term relationship, at both running and at personal levels. Runners have to be aware that an ultramarathon like Brazil135 is a challenge not only for the runners but also for all the personnel involved in it. Drivers, support team members, on top of their service to the runners, may not be long distance runners themselves. So, this is another factor to be considered, on top of everything else. So, be aware of all the consequences of sharing not only a vehicle, but human resources associated with these vehicles. Both machines and humans have body and mind/motor limitations! - All support team members actions reflect directly upon the runner whom they are supporting. - We expect both the runners and all their support team members to follow all rules and regulations. - We expect good will and good manners towards all involved in this race: other runners, other support team members, all staff, everyone directly or indirectly affected by this event. We do not tolerate rude behavior from anyone in this event. - We strongly suggest that you identify your vehicle by placing signs with runners names, bibs, logos, sponsors, team names, etc. The more identifiable your vehicle is, the easier it is to be recognized and therefore supported by the community. - All faults and penalties coming from a team member will be applied to the runner they are supporting. - All vehicles should hang the rearview mirror ID tag (received at the pre race meeting) on their vehicles. - All vehicles have to turn on the roof device (received at the pre race meeting) from 6 pm to 6 am. - All dirt road and general traffic regulations should be followed by all drivers at all times. 8.2 Support Team for International Runners: (if you are an international runner, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time). - If you or anyone member of your support team considered that another runner or theirs team members are not playing by the “fair play” spirit you have the right to take action; - However, based on the 20 years experience we came to the conclusion that in a race like Brazil135 things are not always what they seem to be. Factors like exhaustion can play tricks. So, consider carefully if you want to go ahead and report what may be considered someone else’s not playing fair. - To help the Race Director to make his decision, please: a) Gather the facts; b) Gather or collect all possible evidence(s) of the occurrence; c) Fill out the “Due Process Form” at the Finish Line (ask any staff); d) Present them directly to the Race Director (only to the Race Director) at the end of your race. e) Do not interrupt your race because of any external factor. f) Do not let this occurrence influence your state of spirit. g) Finish your race and the process will be analysed and a decision will be made. You will be informed as well as the other party(ies) involved what the decision was. g) Do not inform anyone else, besides your team members or the Race Director of the occurrence. Do not inform any other runner or any other runner's team members or race staff. - All complaints have to be delivered directly to the Race Director
